A team of young artists decides to make a statement by painting a fifty-foot graffiti piece on the towering wall of the Art Institute of Chicago. These young men of color are willing to risk everything to make their voices heard. The play asks: what is art, where is it found, and to whom does it belong? Based on true events.

THIS IS HIP-HOP

A post-show event
Join us before (or after) the performance to explore the "five elements of Hip-Hop." Demonstrations by community artists and students will fill the Museum's spaces with break-dancing, DJing, rapping, and grafitti tagging. At 6PM, playwrights Kevin Coval and Edris Goodwin engage in conversation with a Bay Area scholar of these linked art forms. A Q &A will follow.

Friday Nov. 8th, 5:45-7:30 pm | Museum of Art (demonstrations)
6:00-6:45 | Art 105 (conversation with the playwrights) These events are free, and the public is warmly invited.
